Veggies like cauliflower, zucchini, potato and sweet potato are amazing in the air fryer… and so is anything breaded for some ultra crunch. Pork Belly cooks up so well in the air fryer, as do our Cheeseburger Spring Rolls. What cannot be cooked in an air fryer?

Whilst you can cook just about anything in your air fryer there are some foods you want to avoid air frying.

  • Battered foods – you should avoid putting raw batter in your air fryer, it will make a mess (and let’s face it, who wants extra mess?) and will cook unevenly. Raw batter also won’t crisp up the same way it does in oil; for the best crispy results you should coat your crispy bits in breadcrumbs instead.

  • Leafy greens – spinach, kale and all those other deliciously leafy greens tend to cook unevenly in the air fryer. They also have a tendency to go flying whilst inside the machine due to the use of high speed hot air. Leafy greens in the air fryer also have a tendency to burn, if youtube wanting delish veggies in the air fryer stick to broccoli, zucchini, eggplant or anything with a bit of weight.

  • Cheese – unless you’re coating your cheese in something, think these cheesy dumplings for example… raw cheese put in the air fryer will melt into a puddle and create a big mess. Stick to a toastie machine or the humble grill if you’re wanting melty cheese sans mess.

Can you put raw meat in an air fryer?

You sure can! Cooking raw meat in the air fryer is perfectly safe, although the outside of your meat may cook faster than the inside, so be sure to use a meat thermometer to ensure your food is cooked through!
