Glass noodles, if you’ve never tried them…you definitely should! These glass noodle recipes will have you kicking yourself for not trying glass noodles sooner! The starchy noodles are also sometimes called cellophane noodles – and are perfect in stir-fries, soups and even spring rolls! Versatile, delicious and super simple to cook with, glass noodles are an absolute must try. 

 

Glass noodles are not to be confused with rice noodles, as glass noodles are commonly made from mung bean flour! They are also gluten free so perfect for all the coeliacs in your life, adding glass noodles to your regular recipes will become a swift staple in your house – promise!

What can I use glass noodles for?

Glass noodles are a pillar when it comes to noodle recipes, and you can use them for so many things!you can use them in your chicken noodle soup recipes for something different, or even have them be your noodle salad recipe base. They’re super fast, super delicious and if you haven’t had the chance to try glass noodles yet you absolutely need to get your hands on them ASAP!

 

Do I soak glass noodles before cooking?

You really only need to do one or the other when it comes to preparing glass noodles. When preparing glass noodles you can choose to soak them in warm water for about 10 minutes to soften them up, or you can boil them like you tend to do with most noodles. Glass noodles do tend to become overcooked quite quickly though so be careful if you’re using the boiling method! 

 

Are glass noodles the same as rice noodles? 

Whilst glass noodles and rice noodles might look the same, and even though you could probably use glass noodles in your rice noodle recipes, they are actually different! They’re both Chinese-style noodles, but the difference is what they are made out of. Rice noodles are made out of rice flour and water, but glass noodles (sometimes referred to as cellophane noodles) are actually made out of mung bean flour. Glass noodles have many names – you may hear them referred to as cellophane noodles, transparent noodles, glass noodles or even bean thread noodles.
