Pork shoulder is a cut of pork that can be a bit daunting if you’re a newbie! The best method for cooking pork shoulder is definitely cooking it slowly. This means roasting or slow-cooking are two of the best methods for getting tender and juicy pork shoulder. Pork shoulder, if cooked too quickly, has a tendency to dry out. However using a long and slow cooking method tenderises the meat and melts the fat masking it extra tender. Stewing and braising are also both excellent ways to really get the full potential out of pork shoulder. 

 

You can of course test out different cooking methods for pork shoulder and find out which works best for you! It’s all trial and error, and just because one method might be ‘best’ for me does not mean it’s always best for you! 

 

How long should pork shoulder be cooked?

This totally depends on the type of pork shoulder recipe you’re whipping up. Typically though, you want to cook pork shoulder more slowly. This means slow-cooking or roasting to get that super tender, juicy pork shoulder we all know and love! You can use pork shoulder to make char siu BBQ pork which is an excellent topping for pork soup. OR if you get your hands on pork shoulder steaks and you slice them thinly they make for an epic addition to pork stir-fries

 

You can also use pork shoulder to make pulled pork, which is extra delicious and can be used in so many different ways. One of the best things about the humble pork shoulder is that you will have leftovers for days – which you can add to noodles, rice bowls, into wraps or a myriad of other delish dinners.
