What else can I cook in a rice cooker?

One of the biggest misconceptions about rice cookers is that they can only be used for cooking rice…and that’s simply not the case. We have rice cooker recipes for just about everything, mains, desserts, sides – you name it. From Beef Korma Curry, to Chinese-style Ribs. You can even make desserts in your rice cooker – check out our recipe for Rice Cooker Berry Steamed Pudding

What to add to rice to make it taste better in rice cooker?

If you’re looking for ways to spice up your rice when using a rice cooker – look no further. Adding extra flavour to your rice can really level up a recipe.

You can add a number of ingredients to your rice to take it to the next level. You can replace the water with stock, chicken adds a ton of flavour and works especially well if you’re pairing it with a chicken dish (use our Chicken-y Ginger Rice recipe for inspo!).

You can also add a number of spices to your water when making rice – thyme, garlic and chilli flakes will add loads of flavour to your rice. Onion and ginger can also be added to your rice cooker to make it extra delicious. If you’re going to add ginger the best way to do it is to just chuck a few slices (skin on) into the rice cooker while it’s cooking and then remove before you dig in. Voila – flavourful rice every. single. time.

What is the ratio of water to rice for a rice cooker?

Generally when it comes to cooking rice, you can follow a 1:1 ratio – that is for every one cup of rice you add one cup of water. However, your rice packets should have a guide on the desired ratio for that grain of rice, so it would be best to follow that.
